God of War (2016) by EpicKeenan God of War (2016) by EpicKeenan
Hey guys here is some fan art I did for the new God of War (2016) game that was just revealed at E3. I hope you all enjoy it! This is probably my most tedious piece yet took 21 hours and 11 minutes :D

Hi, I'm from ProjectComment !

Admittedly, I've never played God of War but it's plain to see some serious thought went into this piece's execution.

Like mentioned in other comments, the blur and motion lines are an excellent touch to build drama and tension. I can almost hear that big guy roaring.

Something else that sticks out is that the guy is definitely roaring at the audience...but not necessarily at the small fry in the foreground. I think the drama/tension will increase if eye contact is made between both characters here. An example would be to keep big guy where he is, move the small fry closer to the camera in the foreground slightly off to the left or right so we're looking over his shoulder right at the roaring big guy. Just a thought :)

Nice work and have a great day!

I like how you used blur on some of the lines and background. I haven't seen that in many pieces and it's pretty unique. You did a great job on this ;P

It was so glorious :happybounce:

But they look like they took inspiration from The Last of Us so I feel the kid will get better over time

The Last of Us, the beginning was depressing man.

But I do get you. I heard this one will dwell into
Norse mythology, since Kratos broke.. like Greek.

The kid will, but.. I'd love to know what happened to his mother. Can he not keep a wife?

I'm really interested to see what happened because to me it looks like the mother had left recently not necessarily died, I want to see how they bridge their own lore and the mythos.

This piece immediately caught my eye, not for the subject matter (haven't been big into that particular game series) but for the techniques used.  I'm impressed by the successful use of radiating streaks and vignette blur to focus the viewer's attention on the center of action.  Also, more blur used in the background adds depth of field both increasing this directed focus and making the entire scene more lifelike.

Your details are very well thought through, too.  I see the smaller fellow on the left with his shoulder pulled back, just starting to get ready to swing his club.  And the way you curved the teeth back along the lower jaw of the larger character's (I'll call him an ogre) open mouth gives depth and shows a realistic understanding of mandibular anatomy.  Your posing and proportions are just right, as not only in each character but as they relate to each other.  The ogre's eyes really seem to be looking at his antagonist. And the small chap's head is leaned back just enough to point his face toward the ogre's.  Your color choices are great, too.  They stick to a theme of browns that feels believable for the fantasy era, but there's enough variation to add interest.

That said, there are still some areas for improvement, I think.  The most significant of these is shading and shadowing.  The orgre's torso looks flat because it lacks shading around the sides, and the same is true for his horns/tusks and the smaller guy's arm. I can see that you have been applying shading in some places (the small man's shoulder and powder-horn, etc.), but I want to encourage you to take it further.  Your line work is, in places, outstanding, like in the powder-horn or the ogre's face.  But in other areas, like in the hero's knuckles or the ogre's chest, the lines seem extraneous and really detract from an otherwise quite excellent piece.  Finally, I don't know if the axe is of your own design or if it's from the game, but it looks odd to me the way the handle curves forward toward the blade.  I keep thinking this would be forward-heavy unbalanced and unpleasant to wield.

Anyway, that's my two cents.  I hope you find it helpful.

Wow, that took a lot of time! I really like the way you captured motion and drama of the situation, focused center with the blurred edges :) I can imagine this effect could be even deepened with bolder shading and some highlights, but I really like it the way it is too :)

Thank You so much! And I agree I was playing with the style approach I wanted to preserve both a sense of drama and action but keep a feeling of color and "comic book illustration"
